CD Review
Title: No Mystery
Artist: Chick Corea/Return to Forever Band
Release Date:1975

This is the fifth album recorded by the RTF band. The album when
released on vinyl was split into two with side A consisting of Jazz-Funk
while side B was classic Jazz sounds lead by Chick on the piano.
With the addition of Al DiMeola on guitar the band line up including
Stanley Clarke on guitar and Lenny White on drums, was now in perhaps
the most recognized partnership that was later on to withstand several
breakups. The first track 'Dayride' is the only Stan Clarke
composition and features his funk fuzz guitar style. Also of note is DiMeola's first recorded composition 'Flight Of The Newborn' which is a
gem in all respects particularly as Al DiMeola was only 21 years old.
The Corea piano piece 'No Mystery' was originally the first track on
side B and was to become a signature tune when the duet with Gary Burton
was later formed.
Track List:
1. Dayride (3;25)
2. Jungle Waterfall (3:03)
3. Flight of The Newborn (7:23)
4. Sofistifunk (3:51)
5. Excerpt From The First Movement Of Heavy Metal (2:45)
6. No Mystery (6:10)
7. Interplay (2:15)
8. Celebration Suite PI (8:27) & PII (5:32)
The album ends with the 16 minute two part 'Celebration Suite' and these
orchestral shorts were feature of many of the bands albums. The
track features impressive drum support from Lenny White.
The band won the 'Best Jazz Performance by a Group' Grammy in 1975 for
this album, which today is considered the quintessential RTF recording.
The band toured during 1975 with this album including a performance in
Carnegie Hall.
