Title: Live at the Point
Artist: David Gray
Release Date:2001

This concert was filmed as part of a multi-city tour of Ireland and the UK that featured this final Dublin gig. The 17 song concert features 8 titles from the 'White Ladder' CD released before the tour, includes 'Babylon', and starts with 'Sail away'. Other material includes 'A century ends' and the 'The light'.

The concert version of 'Sail Away' seems to play well live and compares well with the much closer studio versions of the CD. In Gray's interview as part of the bonus material he tells us that studio is 'subtle' where as the live version must played in a 'more obvious way...' and he goes on to tell us about his welsh upbringing despite being a Mancunian. Gray also walks the streets of Cork, mingles with the Irish shoppers and shows us a side of the country that is often missed from the travel brochures.

This concert shows Gray and co-writer McClune at their best making 'My Oh My' and 'Sail Away' memorable whereas you may have passed them by on the CD. Craig McClune seems to add something thing to all of the tracks in addition to his excellent drum performances, and his stick spinning which is evident on 'Babylon'. Gray also gives a solo piano performance on 'This years love' proving that he's as accomplished on the piano as he is on the acoustic guitar. Despite the 9000 member crowd at the venue, the viewer is not aware of the crowds appreciation apart from the ending applause and this makes this live performance an excellent addition to any music collection.

Several tracks feature multiple camera angles but no angle control is offered on this DVD, presumably in order to allow space for the extensive bonus material.   The stage lighting is a little dark in places but this does not detract from a very watchable and memorable performance of an artist clearly at his peak.

Sound: 5.0 Dolby surround.
Running time: concert 88mins + Bonus material
